Description

Starting from Chora, the paved path descends to the entrance of the Panagia Hozoviotissa monastery enclosure, where the climb begins. In under 500 m, you reach one of the most important Byzantine monuments in the Aegean, wedged into steep rocks 300 metres above the sea.

The route continues along a clear path, then a dirt track, passing near two more Byzantine monuments — Agios Ioannis Chrysostomos and the cave church of Panagia Theoskepasti. After the Xenodochio pass, you cross the deserted hamlets of Asfontylitis and Oxo Meria, remarkable examples of traditional rural architecture, along with the remains of ancient towers. The route ends at Lagkada, the traditional central village of the Aegiali region.
